Water Fountain Types

There are several ways of classifying water fountains.  They can be classified whether they are indoors or outdoors.  They can be classified according to how the water flows, where they are installed, material they're made of, country of origin, design, and their use.

The outdoor/indoor classification is quite obvious.  Outdoor fountains are those that are found outside establishments like gardens, parks, or outside buildings while Indoor fountains are those installed inside the house, building, or office.

Another obvious classification are water fountains classified according to materials they are made of.  They can be made of concrete, copper, wood, clay, stone or a combination of these.

Fountains maybe be classified as downward fall,  where you can see water coming down;  rising jet, where water shoots straight up into the air;   or a combination of both rising jet and downward fall.  This classification is based on how water spouts or flows.

Power source is another type of fountain classification.  Natural fountains don't need any power, the same goes for those whose water source come from natural springs and have adequate water pressure.  Artificial fountains may be powered by electricity or by the sun, with the use of solar panels.

Another classification is one that is based on which part of the house they are installed.  They are mostly indoor fountains but there some that are outdoor fountains as well.  The smallest ones are the tabletop or desktop fountain where you can place it on the table.  These are good for small spaces such as a personal space at the office or in apartments.  The next one is the floor fountain.  They are mostly free-standing fountains which you can transfer from one location of a house or office to another place without much fuss.  The last one is the wall fountain.  Wall fountains are mounted in walls and may require some assembly.  You can see these kinds in office buildings commonly with the company logo as its main back draft design.  Smaller wall fountains can be seen in homes, or smaller offices giving it a classy look.

Different countries have different looks of water fountains.  Asian inspired water fountains are mostly oriental in design.  Most are made with the intention of applying zen or feng shui in mind.  These fountains are made to induce relaxation and relieve stress as well as bring out the positive energy or chi and invite good luck and prosperity in the house.  American designed fountains usually have a modern look while European designs give a classic feel to the place.

Historical period also have its own design that characterizes these eras. You’ll see most of these fountains in Northern America and Europe.  The classical styles such as Victorian, Renaissance, and medieval designed fountains are usually found in public gardens and parks.
